Xmas Tournament

The fun and competitiveness of our annual Xmas Doubles Tournament (Wednesday 23rd December 2010) which was held at Oasis Academy Wintringham, was great to see and the evening was so fantastic we decided to run it again!

On the first occasion we had 23 players attending making up 12 pairs, with partners being picked out of the hat! To make the tournament more fun, we never let the best players partner each other and drawing names out of the hat, put together some interesting combinations! Due to the odd number, Derrick had to play with different partners all evening (poor Derrick, but he loved every minute!).

With 12 pairs, we had a round robin tournament with every pair playing each other and this meant 66 matches being played throughout the evening, most of which were very close and extremely competitive. The tournament was eventually won by Tom Machon & Chris Hill who lost only one match all evening and were worthy winners of a great nights competition.

With the tournament being such a great success, we decided to do it all over again on Sunday 9th January 2011.

One or two players, noticeably John Holland, Mike Reid and Chris Simpson, who all missed the first tournament, played their part in making this second tournament even more competitive than the first and another really great night. This time we had 26 players making 13 pairs and due to this large number, we decided to have two groups; one with 6 pairs and the other with 7, with two pairs from each group going into a semifinal. Again the competitiveness of the players was great to see with only 5 points separating the top four from each group including a tie in one group with the outcome going to the score in their own head to head game. The final was between, Mike Reid & Katie Allen v James Lait & Sue Sharpe with Mike & Katie being the eventual winners by two game to one.

Our next tournament will be around Easter 2011 and any local player is welcome to attend.

These competitions are so exciting and should you wish to come as a spectator, you are most welcome. Entry to the tournament will be £5 per person, with spectators getting in for free.

All welcome, start time 7pm at Oasis Academy Wintringham, date yet to be advised.

Please keep checking our web-site for details.
